On 9th January, we received 40 students and one lecturer from UM's Postgraduate Diploma in Education for their Sociology of Education Class. The group was guided by Rimba Ilmu's research officer, Ilyana Hassya and PhD student, Leong Qi Jia.
The next day we had a full plate as a gotong-royong with students from IchemE Student Chapter happened the same day as a mini workshop about Peatland, Fire, and Restoration was being conducted in the glass lobby and auditorium. The gotong-royong was led by Dr Yong Kien Thai while the workshop was managed by students of Ecology Biodiversity, UM themselves.
On 17th and 18th January, a birding activity was conducted at Tasik Varsiti and Rimba Ilmu. The birding was conducted by Rimba Ilmu and led by student, Lim Wen Kai where we managed to spot birds that were not listed in Tasik Varsiti before. The program was joined by members of public across all ages.
From 26-29th January 2026, Rimba Ilmu's Dr Yong Kien Thai, Ilyana Hassya, Shyam Venkatachalam, and PPBGL's Dr Nurul Nadhirah Othman became a part of an expedition conducted in Manjung, Perak. The expedition focused in assessing the biodiversity of the location with the trails for sampling being led by staff from Perak Forestry Department.
