Our humble herbarium started in the 1960s where over the years we have amassed more than 80,000 specimens. We have three herbariums that are actively used in research: main herbarium that houses everything from pteridophytes to monocots and dicots, bryophytes herbarium, and seaweeds and seagrasses herbarium.
Steps for specimen deposition:
It takes about a month from the sample drying to being ready for deposition. We shall send you the voucher number after we complete the above process.
Please keep your newly harvested sample in a sealed plastic bag and send it to us as soon as possible. You may watch the first 5 minutes of this video: https://youtu.be/2wFN9YmkBOQ?si=_yStUdXZwXqat0d3 to gain a better idea of how to harvest a plant for a herbarium voucher.
You may drop the sample off with our office lady, Pn. Nur Hazimah, or our officers in the herbarium, Ms. Ilyana or Ms. Aina.
We charge RM 100 per sample for sample validation and deposition service: https://epay.um.edu.my/epay/payment/paycategorylist (look for Herbarium Rimba Ilmu). Please make the payment only after we accept your specimen.
